Beginnings and Influences……
I have always been attracted to art. My father introduced me to oil painting in my early teen years and I was impressed by a painting of a lake, that our family bought from a neighbour who was an artist. Images that intrigued me at that time were of water. My first painting was depicting a ship on a rolling sea.
In the early 70’s I studied fine art at university and subsequently taught Fine Art at the university level for a short while, before working in the mining laboratory industry. Over the intervening years I continued producing pieces sporadically. Slices of rock became a fascination and the patterns and colors of polarized crystal structure consequently showed up is some of my work.
Since I took early retirement I have been able to ‘immerse’ myself back into the creative realm and have for a time gravitated to water again. Like the patterns and colors of polarized rock slices, I enjoy the patterns and colors that water reflects back. The close up views while more ‘real’ than polarized rock are natural abstracts.
Intentions…..
An art work should leave you with a sense of wonder, besides appreciating the image, and that is what I attempt to do. I use the frame sometimes not just to present the work but as part of the work itself. Now and then using close ups for a cryptic view or the use of a puny title helps the allure or focus the thought.
Hope you enjoy the work. Contact me and let me know what you think.
